Copenhagen on Wheels

What shocked us most when we arrived in København (Copenhagen) was not the multitude of grand castles and churches scattering the city, nor the prominent amusement park (the largest in Scandinavia) situated at its heart--it was the bikers. At first, it seemed like it was an act of Critical Mass or something, but then we realized that this was the average day in København: while the touristy may walk and the lazy may take cabs, most just hop on their bikes to get anywhere. We even saw a number of bikes with wagons attached to the front bearing numerous little children. Practically every street has a bike path right next to the sidewalk, which makes it an easy form of transportation around the city. Walking around, we couldn't help but think that U.S. cities could use a few pointers from the Danes.
