By happy coincidence or clever urban planning, Arcachon’s train station and tourist office are on the same block, both on boulevard du Général Leclerc. The bus to the Dune du Pyla, which is 5km south of town, stops right at the train station. To reach Arcachon’s beaches from the tourist office, take avenue Gambetta. It’s only three blocks until the beach. You can bike or walk along the boulevard de la Plage which follows the town’s many beaches as they curve around the bay. Travelers who opt to bike to the Dune should expect a 45min.-1hr. ride, half of which is on specified bike paths, while the other half is on highways. Except for the intense hill right before the Dune, it’s a great bike ride.
