Orientation

BIARRITZ

The train station, Biarritz-la-Négresse, is 3km. outside of town along Av. du Président John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Av. du JFK turns into Av. du Maréchal Foch once it enters town. It’s a 40min.-1hr. walk, or a 10min. bus ride on #2. On Sundays, bus B travels the same route. To walk, turn left outside of the train station. If you’re staying at the Auberge de Jeunessse. it’s an easy 10min. walk from the train station. Follow the signs and expect to quickly turn left off Av. du JFK onto Rue Phillipe Veyrin.

Once you’ve made it to town, you can orient yourself using the central square Pl. Georges Clémenceau. From this square, Av. Édouard VII passes the Casino and heads north, following Biarritz’s main beach, the Grande Plage, to one side. At the far northern tip is Biarritz’s lighthouse. Rue Gambetta leaves the square to the west and curves south following the beach in the other direction. Taking Rue Mazagran, the right fork where Rue Gambetta leaves Pl. Clémenceau leads to Pl. Sainte Eugénie, another square with a church, gazebo and beautiful view of the waves. Continue along Rue Mazagran to find hotels, restaurants and bars and eventually rue du Port Vieux will take you to the water’s edge.
