CAGNES-SUR-MER
Overview
Cagnes sur Mer is the halfway point between Nice and Cannes, and it provides access to all the provincial towns and medieval villages in between. It also features a medieval village of its own and the illustrious Grimaldi Castle, as well as a lively city center and beachfront fishing community. You can find more spectacular palaces and cuter fishing boats than those in Canges sur Mer, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find all of those qualities in one city. If you’re facing a time crunch, a stay here will ensure that you’ll see all the major highlights of the region, even if you aren’t seeing the best of the best. The cheap eats and hotels are a big draw for young travelers; just be warned that many establishments lower their prices at the expense of regional charm.
