To reach the Cathédrale from the train station, walk straight ahead down avenue Jehan de Beauce to place de Châtelet and look up. You’ll see the cathedral and the place de la Cathédrale and quickly begin to comprehend that the church isn’t the only show in town. Don’t make the mistake of asking a local where the cathedral is; you’ll get laughed at or severely snarked. The Musée des Beaux-Arts and other prominent sights are located behind the cathedral. La Maison Picassiette is a little farther away, about 10min. from the vieille ville by taxi. Chartres’s medieval tangle of streets can be confusing, but getting lost is enjoyable.
