GRENOBLE

The heart of Grenoble is the Vieux Ville, which is bounded by the River l’Isère to the north, Cours de Jean Juarès (the longest straight road in France) to the west, and the Museum of Grenoble to the east. One of Grenoble’s largest suburbs, Échirolles, is about 4 km to the south, and is connected to the centre ville by the #1 bus and the A Tram. The other side of the River l’Isère is mostly residential, though there is a thin avenue of shops and cafés that runs along its bank. Towering over the city is the Bastille, a mountain fortress with stunning views of the new and old city, as well as the mountain ranges surrounding Grenoble.
