MENTON

Menton is neatly divided into three parts: the Old Town, the New Town, and the beach or port. While the beach is practically the only sight that is not in the Old Town, and the port de Garavan is mostly local and devoid of tourists, the new port on the border of the old city prominently features the Bastion fort. Head towards the chapel tower from the Bastion to enter the old city. The pl. du Cap with its slew of small restaurants is at its heart, while the pl. St. Michel is the oldest part of town in front of the church. The two main walkways that snake through the old town and towards the new town are the rue St. Michel and the rue de la République, which pass by the Hôtel de Ville. In the new city, the ave. de Verdun is the main road that clearly separates the new and old cities, and leads right to the doors of the casino and nightclub, passing by the Palais de l’Europe and the Tourism Office. Follow that road up and turn left to reach the train and bus stations.
