Orientation
RENNES
The north exit of the train station will lead you to Ave. Jean Janvier, which runs over the Vilaine River that separates the train station from the vieille ville. Pleasant promenades line the canal that emerges briefly at Pl. de la République, then resurfaces again at Pl. de Bretagne. Turn left and walk along Quai Châteaubriand to reach Pl. de la République, the city’s cultural center. To the north on rue d’Orléans lies Pl. de la Mairie, in the heart of the vieille ville. North of that, Pl. Ste-Anne is always littered with idlers and bar-goers, booksellers, artists, and the occasional troublemaker. The most well-kept half-timbered houses can be seen on Pl. du Champ-Jacquet.
