SAINT-RAPHAËL

Saint-Raphaël is centered at its port and the pl. Pierre Coullet, where cute cafes and mom-and-pops rub elbows with big hotels and businesses. The old city lies between the train tracks and the water, while the newer part of the city (where you find lower prices) is on the other side of the tracks. The city gets confusing when it comes to addresses—two roads go by multiple names. Cours Jean Bart and Promenade Guilbaud are the same thoroughfare, and businesses use either street name. The street is located on the port, closer to Frejus. The other main street in Saint-Raphaël runs along the plage de Veillat, and goes by one of three names: Promenade Rene Coty, bl. de la Liberation, or promenade de Lattre de Tassigny. Within the old port, the streets are neatly laid out in a grid, but lose their uniformity once you get into the newer part of the city.
