LEIPZIG
Leipzig’s Innenstadt, where the traveler will find most of Leipzig’s sights and museums, is contained within a 1km wide ring, surrounded by wide streets on all sides. The city is anchored by the Hauptbahnhof train station to the north and Thomaskirche to the west. The inside of the ring is split by smaller, mostly-pedestrian roads lined with crowded, elaborate buildings. Parks border the center on the east and the south, with Clara Zetkin Park, the city’s largest, located to the east just off Martin Luther Ring. The main hubs of the Innenstadt are located in the Markt and close to Grimmaischestrasse, which cuts the city in half from west to east, with a high concentration of restaurants and bars just outside the ring, on Gottschedstrasse. Outside the Innenstadt, prices get less expensive, geared toward Leipzig Universität students. The university buildings are scattered throughout the city, but most campus activity is concentrated in the southeast of Innenstadt, with a ribbon of funky college nightclubs, bars, and restaurants winding down Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse.
