LEEDS
Most of Leeds’s city center is contained within the Leeds Inner Ring Road, a loop that runs around the northern parts of the city. Briggate, the main street, runs north-south, and doubles as a pedestrian shopping area. Nearby Queen Victoria Street (part of the Victoria Quarter) is encircled by a glass roof. Millennium Square, to the north, is a recently redeveloped area and, with its large open public space, is a common reference point. The area right near Leeds Railway Station is known as City Square (even thought it’s actually more of a triangle), and this part borders on the Financial and Legal Quarter which centers around Park Row, the main financial street. To the northeast sits the university area: think College Park, Happy Valley, Ann Arbor—your American college town of choice—with slightly run-down row houses, nondescript apartments, and beer cans in the street. Ah, what charm.
