BeachesAndros is home to two sand beaches, Paraporti Beach and Nimborio Beach, and one other beach that only locals know about. Facing Pl. Kairis from Georgios Ebirikos, Paraporti is to the right and Nimborio is to the left. Nimborio, which is backed with a beach bar and has chairs and umbrellas to rent already set up in the sand, is more developed than Paraporti, an open expanse of sand with a beautiful view of Andros’ mountainous terrain. Both are sand, both are extensive, and both can be settled on free of charge so long as furniture is avoided. The third beach is down at the very end of Georgios Ebirikos at the end of Pl. Kaliris just past the Maritime Museum. Here, there is no sand, but there are rocks anda concrete platform to leave your belongings. Those who know Andros Town best—the old women and men who have lived here their entire lives—come here to swim. Immediately to the left are Venetian ruins left from when Italy occupied the island, and just a few hundred meters away is the still-functional Andros lighthouse. For a real treat, buy some goggles in one of the sand-bucket selling stores along Georgios Ebirikos to check out the fish of this hidden treasure.
