In case you hadn’t noticed yet, Ios is a beach and party island; there’s little to do here but eat, sleep, and copulate. Mylopotas Beach is a 25min. walk from town and can also be reached by public buses, which leave from the town center every 20min. Here, the music is as loud as the bikinis are small—this is the place to go if seeking scantily clad young Aussies. Mylopotas, Gialos, and Manganari beaches all offer watersports ranging from paddleboats to windsurfing and tubing. The impeccably clean TSaint Theodotis Beach, on the northeast side of the island, is the quietest of the beaches. Koumbara, about 2km down the road along Gialos beach, draws a smaller crowd to its large cove and is a popular place for windsurfing. Those who want more serene natural beauty should check out Manganari, which is accessible by bus. Locals head to Kolitsani, a crystal pool of water at the little bay. And if you want to forgo all pretense of bathing suits, head to Psathi, the nude beach on the eastern coast.
