KOUFONISIA
Overview
Koufonisia is like a tater tot—golden, perfectly sized, and good even without ketchup. Most importantly, like tater tots, you can never get enough of this postcard-worthy and postage-stamped sized island. The sea is crystal clear, and even the beach immediately beside the port is sandy and splashing with naked two-year-olds. Koufonisia’s roads are predominantly pedestrian-only, and only one of them is paved. No motorbikes rip through the streets, and no aggressive cab drivers honk. The island lacks a bank, a phone store, a laundromat, or any semblance of Dionysian nightlife, opting instead for peace of mind. Perhaps most conveniently, no archaeological sites or museums loom in the distance to remind you of Greece’s ancient culture or heritage—here you can worship the sun god with peace of mind. White buildings with blue shutters spot the coastline, and fine sand wraps around the island’s entirety.
