MYKONOS
Overview
Mykonos is renowned as an island devoted to hedonism. Happy hour comes three times per day and bathing suits are the official uniform. But the Dionysian impulse is only one side of the island. Those less inclined to relax on clothing-optional beaches or rage at local clubs can navigate the winding streets of tourist-friendly Mykonos Town, lined with upscale shops and restaurants, or head to one of the island’s more family-happy beaches. With this mix of grandparent-friendly town and adult-only clubs, Mykonos can suit any traveler’s desires—though those seeking nighttime extravagance and debauchery are likely to love this island best. Mykonos’s GLBT scene far surpasses that of other Greek islands, and the sight of gay and lesbian couples holding hands is as commonplace as that of lizards scuttling over the island’s ubiquitous whitewashed buildings.
