Naxos is one of the biggest of the Cyclades, and its long coastline makes for lots of beaches. Agios Giorgios is the closest beach to town, just a few minutes from the port (walk along the waterfront, away from the Temple of Apollo, pass OTE, bear left when the road forks by the big parking lot, and continue about 11 blocks until you reach the shore). At Ag. Giorgios, beachgoers play with paddle balls, toddlers splash in the shallow water, and European men of all ages strut around in Speedos. This beach is crowded, convenient, and very kid-friendly. If you want a little more sandy space to yourself, head to Agios Prokopios, Agios Anna, or the nude beach Plaka, which are all just north of Maragas Camping. All beaches can be accessed by bus from Naxos Town. Check a map of the island for more secluded beaches farther from town. Cabs will usually be willing to take beachgoers nearly anywhere. For waterskiing, windsurfing, tubing, wakeboarding, and pretty much any watersport you can think of, head to Plaka beach for Plaka Watersports, located across the highway from the beach a few minutes from Maragas Camping.
