POSITANO

Though not huge, Positano is tricky to navigate. The centro sits nestled on the coast between two high cliffs but is not accessible by SITA buses—coming from other cities, you’ll have to walk or take a local bus down. From the Chiesa Nuova stop, the winding Viale Pasitea and a few short-cut staircases lead to the Spiaggia Grande, the town’s recreational and commercial heart. Alternatively, from the Positano Sponda stop, Via Cristoforo Colombo is a gentle slope which winds into Via dei Mulini and heads to Piazza Flavio Gioia, which is full of shops and close to the tourist office. A footpath from Spiaggia Grande leads along the coast to Spiaggia del Fornillo, a somewhat less crowded option. Be prepared for winding, pedestrian streets near the water and curving car-ridden roads farther up the cliffs. The area around Chiesa Nuova may not be the city center, but it has great restaurants, cheaper accommodations, and the best views.
