RIOMAGGIORE

From the train station, a tunnel leads to the center of town at Piazza del Vignaiolo. The town’s central street, Via Colombo, heads steeply upward past numerous bars, restaurants, and hotels, eventually becoming Via de Santaurio and reaching the intersection with Via de Gasperi, which circles the valley and boasts marvelous views of the buildings below. Between V. Colombo and V. de Gasperiand accessible by a number of staircases lies the town’s main church, accompanied by its Castello, from which visitors can marvel at spectacular views of the sea. At the lower end of V. Colombo across from the tunnel exit, a staircase leads down to the marina, which is invisible from the main square and home to colorful, bobbing skiffs, a number of seafood restaurants, and the ferry terminal.
