Orientation
BRAGA
Braga’s center is mostly pedestrian, with the Rua do Souto cutting east-west through the city center with smaller streets leading off it. The pleasant Jardim de Santa Barbara and the Praça do Municipio lie to the north, and the Cathedral lies to the south. At the east end of R. do Souto is the Largo Barão de São Martinho, a massive plaza from which the store-lined Avenida Central leads east and the pedestrian thoroughfare Avenida da Liberdade leads south. The tourist office is at this intersection, and the bus station is a few blocks north of the oldest part of town. To get from the bus station to R. do Souto, turn right onto Av. de General Norton de Matos, then right again onto R. de Gabriel Pereira de Castro, and then a slight left at R. do Carmo. From the train station a few blocks west, take R. de Andrade Corvo past the plaza and through the old gate.
