Orientation
CASCAIS
The Cascais train station is at the eastern edge of town; the bus terminal is beneath the large blue shopping center to the right as you exit the train station. From the train station, head along Av. Valbom (just to the right of the McDonald’s) to the end of the street to reach the tourism office, a yellow building with a sign reading “turismo.“ Facing the tourist office, head left down Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra to reach the beaches; Praia da Ribeira is to the right, Praia da Rainha and Praia da Conceiçao are to the left. Praça 5 de Outubro and Largo de Luís de Camões are the town’s main plazas, both just west (right while facing the water) of Av. dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra. The streets around the beaches are full of tourists and shops selling schlock to them; those farther west (to the right as you face the beach) tend to be quieter and are lovely to explore.
