SINTRA

Sintra has three main neighborhoods: Estefânia, where the train station, bus stop, and several inexpensive restaurants and accommodations can be found; São Pedro, a bit farther uphill, which has some shops and government offices; and the Historic Center, where most of the town’s sights are located. To get to the Historic Center, take a left out of the train station onto Av. do Doutor Miguel Bombarda and follow it 150m to the intersection, at which point the curving Volta do Duche veers to the left. This statue-lined road hooks around the valley between Estefânia and the center and is about a 15min. walk to the center. Stay to the right for the Palácio Nacional de Sintra or keep straight to get to the tourist office. Sintra itself is small and easy to get around, but several sights lie outside of town and are best reached by bus or taxi.
