RONDA

Overview

The best piece of advice Let’s Go can give you before visiting Ronda: charge your camera. We’re not kidding. Even the bus ride there is a scenic smorgasbord: you’ll be shocked and inspired by the spectacular cliff views. But, don’t snap too many pics on the bus—’cuz baby, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Make it around the bend for the main event. The white houses of Ronda straddle a steep and spectacular gorge, splitting the new and old city in epic fashion. The three bridges across the gorge—Puente Nuevo, Puente Romano, and Puente Arabe—laud and link the historic influences of Romans, Moors, and Christians in Ronda. Just keep reminding yourself that you’re not actually in a fairy tale—it just looks like one.

Once you’re on foot and ready to explore, you’ll find a sleepy, peaceful town blessed with the interesting contrast between its old and new regions. In the new city, you’ll find commercial streets, noisy restaurants, and an active nightlife. In the old one, you’ll come across crafts markets and tanneries, some quiet, fancy dining options, and, of course, all the spectacular, historic sights that Ronda has to offer.

You’ll probably be able to master every inch of this tiny town within a day or two, but even a short daytrip is worth your time. Grab a quick bus from Costa del Sol or more central regions, and maybe you’ll get lucky enough to kiss a Spanish frog and meet Prince or Princess Charming in the fairy-tale setting that awaits you.
