EIN HOD
Overview
There are artists’ colonies in quite a few Israeli cities, but Ein Hod takes it a step further: an artists’ town. Every resident of this picturesque Mediterranean village had to undergo a stringent selection process before being allowed to move here and begin work. It should therefore come as little surprise that the place looks like it’s straight out of a Dr. Seuss book—parks are swapped for sculpture gardens, gates for serpentine iron contraptions, and signposts for psychedelic ceramic shards. It’s one of those places that simply has to be seen to be believed. Houses double as galleries for their inhabitants, who often keep their doors open for curious wanderers. Saturdays are both the best and worst days to visit: the town explodes with events and live music, but that means that it becomes similarly crowded with visitors. Check the town’s official website at www.ein-hod.info for upcoming events and more information about the colony.
