ARGENTINA

Overview

Whether café con leche, maté, vino, or medialunas (read: the most delicious croissants of your life), you’re going to need something to keep up with long days of exploring Argentina and longer nights—and yes we mean long, until 6am long—of meeting, greeting, and dancing with more friendly people then you thought could exist per square meter. Work off that jetlag with your first dose of maté, a strong green tea served in a gourd through a metal straw. No one drinks maté alone; make a friend, take a sip, and tell a story. When in Argentina, do as porteños do: tango. Get in touch with your sophisticated, sexy side by taking any number of classes offered throughout Buenos Aires. Once you’ve mastered ochos, consider yourself ready for a milonga, where a nod of the head means "let’s dance," and "gracias" means "let’s not." Regardless of your success rate at finding partners, remember the saying covering one wall of La Viruta, a popular tango salon: "You came in walking, you left dancing." With your dancing feet firmly on the ground, city-hop on one of Argentina’s all-night buses to Iguazu Falls, a newly minted natural wonder of the world. Here you can peruse 1.7 miles of overpowering waterfalls in the company of monkeys, parrots, and throngs of tourists. Next on your list of must-see cities: Mendoza, where you will wine, dine, mountain climb, and bathe in hot springs shadowed by the Andes. Next up: Cordova’s colonial architecture and over 70 universities might just seduce you into studying abroad. If you have the time and the money, venture way down south to get your dose of penguins in Parque Nacional Monte León or Punta Tombo. Being this close to Antarctica never felt cooler.
